Lockwood UK 1881 Census Distribution
The Lockwood population at the time of the 1881 census was 6,631. The total population of Great Britain was 35,026,108 giving an overall density of 0.01893 for the Lockwood surname. By far the largest concentration of Lockwoods was in the West Riding of Yorkshire which had 54.5% of all Lockwoods, the next highest was Suffolk which had 5.6% of Lockwoods.

By examining the 1881 census data it can clearly be seen that people moved from the rural areas to London and the industrial heartland of the north west. The 1881 census data had 483 people born in Suffolk but only 376 were there in 1881. Lancashire had 192 Lockwoods born there, but by 1881 there were 314 Lockwoods. London had 325 Lockwoods born there but there were 428 in 1881. There was a large exodus of people from Lincolnshire, with 327 born there, but only 233 in 1881.
