Allison McCrillis Lockwood
Ms. Lockwood is a Northampton
native, graduated from Smith College in 1943 when she began a three-year Army
enlistment. She earned her MA at the University of Iowa under the GI Bill, and
taught in colleges and universities in the Washington, D. C. area where she
lived for 40 years. Her articles have appeared in many U.S. and British
magazines and newspapers, and she has written four books: Passionate Pilgrims:
The American Travelers in Great Britain, 1800-1914; Children of Paradise, A
Northampton Memoir; Touched with Fire, an American Community in World War II,
and No Ordinary Man: Judge Forbes and His Library. Volume I of her history of
Northampton will be published later this year, and Volume II will appear before
Northampton's 350th anniversary in 2004.
