On the third of August 1859, Thomas A.
Whitney appeared before W. A. Hunt, Justice of the Peace requesting a Citation
be issued requiring the proper persons to appear to attend the probate of the
Last will and Testament of Zabud Lounsberry.
The will dated July 19, 1859
left everything to his niece Sara A. wife of Gideon A. Lockwood, "having been
the best friend and the only one who assited me in taking care of my decednd
wife in her last sickness and also waited on and attended me through my
illness."
The actual will is
missing. The Surrogate Court records identify Thomas A. Whitney as executor
[Note: Thomas A. Whitney was a Justice of the Peace] Further documents
identify Margaret Cusick of the Town of Cortlandt (her mark) and Delila
Roundl(her mark) as witnesses to the signature of Zabud Lounsberry on his will
dated July 18, 1859. The Surrogate Court records identify Hiram Rowel of
White Plains as guardian for Amanda Hayes and Zabud Lockwood, minors. From 1859
to 1867 Hiram P. Rowel of White Plains was Westchester County
Clerk. These legal documents prove that
Charlotte, wife of Abraham Hays, and her brothers and sisters by her father
Abraham Lockwood's first wife Maria Lounsbury are the grandchildren of Zabud
Lounsbury.
The June 21,1874 will of Sarah
Kirkum of Carmel, Putnam Co., NY identified the same grandchildren of her
deceased aunt Rachel Badeau, mother of the deceased Maria Lounsbury.
Putnam Co. Old Estates, Vol. C.
#2106: "Petitioner Alfred Dingee of Carmel and Saxton Smith of Putnam Valley,

descendants, named under their parents' notes. 30 Jun 1874. Children of Maria
